Divine Healing Today

Compiled by Milly Spears

Divine healing is healing that comes to us by faith in what God has said and provided in his word. This kind of healing is received through believing God's word. The Bible says: “And blessed is she that believed: For there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.” Luke 1:45. If we believe God's word on healing and act on it, then there shall be a performance of healing in our bodies, for “all things are possible to him that believes.” Mark 9:23 & 2 Cor. 1:20 (All promises of God are yea and amen in Jesus.)

The Bible is our God speaking to us.

We need to act like Mary, the mother of Jesus, who believed what the Lord said and she was blessed. When she heard the impossible thing God was about to do through her, she said, “behold the hand maid of the Lord, be it unto me according to thy word;” (Luke 1:38)

One person's faith not only blesses that person, but it blesses a multitude who hear about what the Lord has done. God is glorified when I get healed and my loved ones are blessed by my continuous presence on earth with every good thing the Lord does through me! Since divine healing is from the spiritual realm, one has to see it spiritually, that is, to see it as a reality in God's word and believe for it in his/her heart before it can be manifest in the physical realm. The Bible teaches us that all things we see with the physical eye were made from things that we don't see with our eyes, spiritual things! (Romans 1:20)

Is it God's Will to Heal?

God has given us his word to give us life and heal us. In Proverbs 4:20-23 the word says: “My son attend to my words, incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them and health to all their flesh.” (KJV) It also says in Psalms 107:20, “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”

People of long ago in Israel, when they got sick they went to a prophet of God to get a word for their healing e.g., King Hezekiah. Only the prophets and kings had the spirit of God and therefore could hear from God. Now Jesus “the word” has been sent to heal us. His Spirit is in every believer. All those that believe in Jesus can get the word and receive healing. The word God sends and speaks will not return to him void as we speak and act on it. (Isaiah 55:11)

Jesus was sent to express God's will on earth. He is the express image of God the Father for he says: “he who has seen me has seen the father” (John 14:10, 8:28-29, 9:4) He said that “I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10. Life is good and abundant if there is no sickness and disease not to mention poverty!  "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." (3 John 2) It is also written: “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” (Acts 10:38) Hence we can say it is God's will to heal and Jesus was manifest to do the works of God, part of which is healing.

Jesus said “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:14,15. Here Christ likens himself to the brazen serpent which was raised up and all that looked at it got healed from the poisonous bites. All who look at his crucifixion expecting to be healed are to get their healing!

Is it God's Will to Heal All?

Isaiah 53:4-5 says “Surely he has borne our griefs (sicknesses) and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” This verse shows us that healing was provided for us at the same time our sins were dealt with at the cross! Healing is in the redemptive plan of God.

This is confirmed further in I Peter 2:24: “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins should live unto righteousness by whose stripes you were healed.” Just like forgiveness of sins is our redemptive right and is received by faith through grace, one has to accept healing as part of our redemption in Christ. Since it is God's will for all to be saved (2 Peter 3:9), then it is God's will for all to be healed! Just like not all receive salvation, not all receive healing but it should not do away with the fact that God desires for all to be healed and saved and blessed with all the other blessings that have been given to us through Christ! We now have peace with God and get to receive His blessings on us, one of which is healing for our bodies. Sickness and disease are a curse according to Deuteronomy 28:14-65. In Galatians 3:13 it is written that Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law, that the blessing of Abraham may come upon us. Deuteronomy 1-13 (Blessing of Abraham)

Jesus' sacrifice covered every area of man's existence, i.e. need. That's another reason we are told to examine ourselves closely (find out what is missing and what is not right in our lives, to enforce the righteousness of God in our lives through Jesus' blood) before we partake [of] holy communion so that we don't do it in vain (without effective results that it was ordained for. Do it for results - to get what Jesus paid for so that he may be glorified. "And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shall glorify me." (Psalm 50:15)

Why Some Don't Get Healed (“Christ the Healer” FF Bosworth and Bible quotes added by M. Spears)

  1. Ignorance of God's ways and promises concerning healing and the power of God. Those who are ignorant of God's will are cut off from the power that is in God's word. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge ...” Hosea 4:6
  2. Unbelief. Hebrews 4:3, Matthew 13:58, 17:20, Mark 6:6, 16:14. Unbelief due to wrong teaching or not hearing things correctly – God tells us to watch the way we hear Matthew 4:24. Unbelief can also be due to having a lot of contradicting natural knowledge – that which is scientific, and letting it come in the way against the truth or faith on God's word i.e. considering natural facts above the word – setting eyes on the natural. “Let God be true but every man a liar” Romans 3:4
  3. Some will not believe that their prayer for healing has been heard until they have experienced and seen the answer. “we walk by faith not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
  4. “We can glorify God more by remaining sick and exhibiting patience than we can by being divinely healed.” Jesus went about healing the sick, then he must have robbed God of his glory! They were healed of their diseases and glorified God (Mat. 9:8, 15:31, Luke 5:26)
  5. “The age of miracles has passed” This is the Holy Spirit age! Jesus said greater works than these shall you do because he goes to the father (John 14:12)
  6. “It is not God's will to heal all” Healing was provided for in the atonement: it is for all (I Peter 2:24)
  7. Praying “If it be thy will” God's will on healing has already been revealed in his word. It is YES! Praying like that is a sign of unbelief and hence no active faith towards healing. Know that healing is God's will I Peter 2:24, Isaiah 53:3,4, Matthew 8:17.
  8. “Paul's thorn in the flesh” the Bible says his thorn was an angel from Satan who buffeted him every where he went. (Cor. 12:7)
  9. Jesus healed the sick as the son of God, not as the son of man. Hence since we are not Jesus we cannot do the job! Jesus said that by himself he could do nothing but it is the spirit of God in him that does the works, (John 14:12). We have the same Spirit (John 14:23)
  10. The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh. (Proverbs 11:17) Cruelty or unkindness towards others can open a door way for sickness to come in and stay until one rids themselves of cruelty.
  11. The breaking of natural laws; e.g., bad nutrition, stress, lack of exercise, obesity, and exposure to poisonous environment continually.
  12. Unbelief on the part of the minister who prays for the sick. (Hebrews 4:2-3)
  13. When one's affliction is the work of an evil spirit which must be cast out. (Mark 7:25-30)
  14. Regarding iniquity in our hearts: “if I regard iniquity in my heart the Lord will not hear me” (Psalm 66:18). One should stop clinging to sin, get rid of it whether in action or in the heart.
  15. Lukewarmness towards God and things of God. Seek God diligently because he rewards those that seek him diligently.
  16. Disobedience or unwillingness to answer God's call on one's life gives the devil a venue to place sickness which lingers until one chooses to obey God. (Jonah)
  17. Wrongs that have not been put right hinder the faith of some. e.g. Unforgiveness (Matthew 18:23-35)
  18. Poor instruction and being confined to miracles only! Healing can be over a period of time, it doesn't always manifest instantaneously. We have to believe the word that says “they shall lay hands on sick and they shall recover.” (Mark 16:18)
  19. Waxing weak in faith by watching their symptoms. (walk by faith not by sight!)
  20. Not acting on one's faith: do what you have not been doing to exercise your faith that you are healed e.g. dare to stand if you have not been able to. Faith without works is dead! (James 2:17-18)
  21. Casting away confidence when tested, failing to see that, as Abraham, by the tet the faith should be perfected, not destroyed. Exercise patience during the test but maintain and hold onto the promise. (Hebrew 10:35-38)
  22. Failure to receive the written promise of God as His direct word to us. (Mark 9:23)
  23. Not walking in love with God and man! Divine healing is a faith issue, faith works by love. (Galatians 5:6) Love never fails, it always brings forth the desired faith results according to the word of God. Walking in love with God through obedience to Him and loving our neighbor as ourselves will bring results when we pray and believe God for healing our bodies.
  24. Bloodline curses that have not been revoked.

As has been mentioned already that it takes faith in God's word to receive healing, this faith comes by hearing God's word. The following scriptures are to bring faith in one's heart that he/she may receive healing.

Healing Scriptures

Bear in mind that: “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither is he the son of man that he should repent: Hath he said and shall he not do it? Or has he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19) “Let God be true but every man a liar” (Romans 3:4) Nothing is impossible with God! (Luke 1:37) God's word is a seed that is to be planted in our hearts and in due time brings forth fruit, in this case healing scriptures bring healing fruit!

"For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not hither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." Isaiah 55:10-11

Any of the following scriptures can be used to believe and receive one's healing. God deals with each case individually. Matthew 9:20-22,27-36

How to Receive Healing ("Bible Healing Study course" by Kenneth Hagin)

One can receive healing by using any of the following methods or a combination of one or two depending on one's faith:

  1. Simple faith in God's word e.g. Centurion said "just say the word and my servant will be healed" Luke 7:1-10. Believe word on healing and thank Him for your healing.
  2. Laying on of hands. Mark 16:18. One who believes in healing, according to the word of God, can lay hands on the sick and they recover.
  3. The name of Jesus - command sickness to leave in Jesus' name, just like Jesus said, speak to your mountain and you believe that you have what you say, and your mountain should obey you! (Mark 11:23)
  4. Supernatural manifestation of the healing power of God e.g. Mark 5:25-34, Isaiah 10:27 - the anointing beaks the yoke. Attend a healing meeting that is charged with the power of where the gift of healing is in operation.
  5. Prayer of faith: James 5:14-15, Matthew 18:19-20. Ask some one who loves the Lord and believes in healing to pray for you.

There are spiritual laws that govern healing that one has to tap into and operate to receive his/her healing. Different laws operate for different benefits, but once specific laws are appropriated for specific need they will deliver that which God send them for.

Laws of Divine Healing

  1. Hear the word: Proverbs 4:20-22 Plant the seed through hearing it and studying. Water the seed by praying it and confessing it.
  2. Speak God's word, order your conversation aright. Stop speaking sickness, which is death! Proverbs 18:20-21, Psalms 50:23, Mark 11:23. Speak faith filled words.
  3. Speak to your mountain in Jesus' name. Mark 11:23
  4. Act on your faith. James 2:14 act like the healed!
  5. Be diligent in your seeking healing don't be laid back about it. Jeremiah 29:11-12
  6. Get rid of unbelief and unforgiveness for faith worketh by love. Galatians 5:6

Some people have been known to lose their healing for some reason. There are different reasons for each individual, it is always good to check one's faith, walk and what they have been listening to in their mind.

How to keep your Healing

Confess the word that you believed for your healing, i.e. Enforce the word Christian soldier! Exercise your authority using God's word. We believe and therefore we speak. 2 Corinthians 4:13. If you feel the pain or experience the symptoms, speak the word of God that you know and believe, on healing. Thank God for your healing according to that word. Keep praising Him and give testimony of your healing to those that need it.

Believe that what you say shall come to pass. Mark 11:24.

Confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:10

Jesus is the high priest of your confession (Hebrew 4:10-15) He makes good what you speak in faith according to the written word of God.

The word of God does not return to Him void. It always accomplishes what it was sent for. Isaiah 55:11.

Remember that God loves you much more than you can ever imagine! and wants you healed then he will be glorified!

Testimonies on Healing

One night my son got so sick with intense pain in his back that he didn't want to stand, sit or lie down! I have always taught my children God's word on healing and laid my hands on them whenever they were attacked by sickness. Because of the knowledge they have and the power of God they have experienced, I asked my son whether he wanted me to take him to the doctor or just believe God for divine healing. He chose to believe God and asked me to pray for him and turn on Brother Kenneth Hagin's tape on healing scriptures. I left his room and kept the tape running; by midnight all the pain ceased and he never got that pain again. MNS

A mother was at church with a sick child and the child's ear started to ache suddenly. The child started screaming and a couple prayed and laid hands on her, she got healed immediately. DO

A relative had a swelling on her neck. I layed a hand on her, prayed and it disappeared right under my fingers. MNS

A woman had a swollen infected leg at a small hospital where I used to go to share the word. My friend and I prayed for complete healing and she got healed that very week and got discharged.

A young lady was suspected of having HIV because she had been cohabiting with her HIV positive boyfriend, for a year. The boyfriend died but we prayed for her to live and be HIV negative. She was tested and came out negative and went away thanking God.

A very sick bed fast lady in her last stages of HIV infection was prayed for and within three days she got off the bed and ate food with her family. To this day she is healthy and practicing medicine taking care of HIV patients.

I have been sick several times and God healed me by just believing and speaking his word.
